A #tbt to the 1988 Yamaha FZ600U. Yamaha followed up the highly successful and multi-race-winning FJ600 sportbike with the even more race-ready FZ600S in 1986, and the bike had a three-year production run in the U.S., culminating in the 1988 FZ600U. Light and nimble, the FZ600 featured a 16-inch front wheel for quick steering, and variable-damper front forks to help fight nosedive under hard braking. Just beneath its sleek bodywork beat the heart of a proven, hammer-wielding warrior: an air-cooled, 599cc, double-overhead-cam, four-cylinder, two-valves-per-cylinder, four-stroke engine with a close-ratio, six-speed transmission that was mounted in a box-section, high-tensile-steel frame. The bike wasn’t exactly bristling with technology, especially by modern-day YZF-R1M standards, but it won a lot of middleweight sprint and endurance races in its day. #Yamaha #FZ600 #1988 #Sportbike #throwback #ride #yamahaofyesterday by yamahamotorusa
